Legal clarity for decisions that carry weight
Practical legal advice on civil, corporate and property matters, offered in Tokyo in English and Japanese. Understanding what you are agreeing to is where it starts.
What we offer
Knowing your position before you sign
Many people encounter legal documents in moments that already feel pressured — a lease before a move, a contract at the end of a negotiation, a property offer after months of searching. The question of what you are actually agreeing to often comes too late.
This practice works through documents with you at the stage where your choices are still open, setting out in plain language what is there, what is missing, and what can reasonably be asked to change.
Written summaries alongside every review
A separate plain-language summary accompanies the marked document, so you have both the detail and the overview.
English and Japanese, both in full
Work is conducted in either language. Documents can be reviewed in Japanese and explained in English, or vice versa.
Fixed fees for defined work
Where the scope is clear, the fee is stated in advance. No open-ended billing where the work is bounded and predictable.
The process
How a matter typically moves forward
Step one
Initial consultation
One hour to understand your situation, explain the applicable framework, and set out what the realistic options look like.
Step two
Scope agreement
Where further work is needed, the scope and fixed fee are agreed in writing before anything proceeds.
Step three
Review or drafting
Documents are reviewed or prepared, with a written summary explaining what is there and what, if anything, requires attention.
Step four
Your decisions
The work ends with you in a better position to decide. Further steps are yours to take, with or without ongoing involvement.
Matter map
Where does your situation fit?
Most enquiries fall into one of three areas. Each links to a fuller description of what that work involves, what is included, and what the consultation fee covers.
Contract review and drafting
Commercial agreements, service terms, distribution documents, non-disclosure arrangements, lease terms. Review before signature, or preparation from the outset.
Property transaction support
Purchase, sale or lease of commercial and residential property. Title verification, disclosure review, agreement examination, and settlement attendance.
Initial consultation
One hour to understand the situation, explain what applies, and set out realistic options with their likely cost and duration. In person or by video.
About this practice

Fixed
Fees for defined scope are agreed in writing before work begins. No open-ended billing on bounded work.
Written
Every review includes a separate plain-language summary. You leave with something you can read again and share.
"We needed to understand a supply agreement before committing. The review was thorough, the written summary made the terms accessible, and the one round of revisions addressed everything we had flagged. The fee was exactly as quoted."
Fees
A plain account of how fees work
Legal fees are a reasonable concern. The arrangements here are intended to be transparent and proportionate to the matter.
Consultation fee
¥15,000
One hour, in person or by video. Covers explanation of the applicable framework and the realistic options. A written summary is sent afterwards.
Fixed-fee work
Agreed first
Where the scope is clear — a document review, a property transaction — the fee is agreed and confirmed in writing before the work begins.
Hourly work
On request
Where scope cannot be fixed in advance, hourly arrangements are available. The rate is stated before any work begins.
